Accompanied by daughters Sasha and Malia, as well as mother Marian Robinson, the first lady met with the iconic South African leader on the second day of a ten-day trip to Africa. The meeting marked the first time that Mandela, South Africa's first black president, and Mrs. Obama, America's first black first lady, had met. A photo shows Mandela, 92, sitting next to Mrs. Obama on the couch, signing a copy of his latest book for the first lady. The revered anti-Apartheid icon, who met Mr. Obama in 2006, was joined by his wife Graca Machel, the former first lady of South Africa and of Mozambique. Michelle Obama reportedly quipped to a greeter that her husband was "pouty" that he was unable to join the family on the trip, according to the Associated Press.
